About

Hi, I’m Thea.

I run Surrow Design from Copenhagen, a one‑designer studio built around a simple belief: if a message doesn’t reach the person it’s for, it hasn’t worked yet, no matter how good it looks.

The story

I trained as a communications designer and went on to complete an MA in Design for People, a programme built around designing with people at the margins first, on the theory that what works for them tends to work for everyone else too. That thinking followed me out of the classroom. Somewhere between a wayfinding brief and a motion project, I noticed the two disciplines were solving the same problem from different angles: how do you take something complicated and hand it to a stranger in a way they immediately understand? Type, motion and 3D all became different tools for the same job. Good design shouldn’t need an instruction manual for the human using it. Today that means a studio practice that moves comfortably between a static identity system, a sixty‑second explainer, and a spatial concept for the same client, always starting from who has to understand it, and working backward from there.

What makes it different

Four things I hold onto on every brief.

People before pixels

Every brief starts with who has to read, use or understand the outcome, including people most studios design around, not for.

Motion & 3D fluency

I don’t hand static work off to an animator. Motion and spatial thinking are built into the concept from day one, not bolted on after.

Accessible by default

Contrast, legibility and plain language aren’t a final QA pass. They’re a constraint I design inside of from the first sketch.

Message-first craft

Style always serves clarity. If a beautiful detail gets in the way of the message, the message wins. Every time.

Like how I work?
